IDE Launches game in MS-DOS filename standard

Currently, IDE launches games with the MS-DOS naming standard, which causes problems for apps like overlays, or social gaming apps like Evolve that auto-detect that the specific game is running via it's process name. Ie. Zandronum.exe gets launched as ZANDRO~1.exe by IDE, which isn't correct, and causes Evolve not to track playtime.

Hopefully this can, and will be fixed. In the meantime I'm forced to use DoomSeeker.

It causes apps specifically looking for "Zandronum.exe" to not work, at all.

what if you rename Zandronum.exe to zandro.exe (for example)? or make a copy with such name
can you setup your Evolve to support this new filename too (and setup ide of course)?

No can do. People shouldn't have to rename their EXEs to get things to work. Also, game rule submissions for evolve go through an approval process. It's already set up to look for Zandronum.exe, it should just work out of the box. But the task is started as ZANDRO~1.exe which isn't recognized.

Seriously, what's the point in using 8.3 filename format anymore? We're not running in DOS or Windows 3.1 anymore.

because 8.3 filenames (and pathnames too) dont have spaces, which simplifies its using
all modern filesystems including last version of NTFS support 8.3 name convention, it is not related to the OS like dos or windows

I tried making detection rules for the name ZANDRO~1.EXE, it did not work... it does not allow or accept 8.3 filenames at all. So unless something is done on the side of IDE, I'm gonna be forced to stop using it and switch to DoomSeeker.

"because 8.3 filenames (and pathnames too) dont have spaces, which simplifies its using"

Encase the path and name in quotes. Simple.

"all modern filesystems including last version of NTFS support 8.3 name convention, it is not related to the OS like dos or windows"

I'm aware, but there's no reason to use the 8.3 convention anymore. There's far better ways of doing things.

"but there's no reason to use the 8.3 convention anymore" - it depends on how much you know about filesystems and its features
from my point of view any serious program shouldnt make such assumption and allow users use all filessystem features
i probably can help with this problem later, and of course you can use any program you prefer
